Avoid Car Breakdown Tips

Unless you have all the luck of the Irish you WILL have to deal with a breakdown at some point in your motoring life. The more miles you do the more you will need to prepare for such an incident but the good news is you can do lots to avoid car breakdown. Follow the breakdown tips below to keep such issues to a minimum...

The Flat Battery
When you are rushing around it is all too easy to leave a light on or the stereo but such a mistake can cost you the next morning. Get into a habit of checking these things before you get out of the car. Or at the very least listen for those warning beeps...

The Flat Tyre
We are all guilty of just expecting modern car tyres to last forever but the fact is they don’t. It can really pay just to check them every few months for wear and any bulges in the tyre wall should be sorted straight away by replacing the tyre.

Oil and Water Levels
A lot of research money goes into avoiding car breakdowns and the manufacturers do all they can to make engines and running gear as bomb proof as possible. One thing they cannot do, however, is check your oil and water levels and sadly, cars are not yet capable of doing it themselves! Put a note in your diary to check the levels every eight weeks or so.

Petrol
Apart from the obvious mistake of putting petrol in a diesel and vice versa the other problem is running the car on fumes. Do this and you risk a car breakdown because the fuel tank will have rust and rubbish at the bottom and as you let low your car will start to ‘drink’ this mix, which can cause clogging problems.

Car Breakdown Insurance
You can do all of the above to reduce your chances of a breakdown but the best thing to do is to get yourself good breakdown insurance cover so you have something to fall back on when the worst does happen.
