Car insurance is one of your biggest outgoings as far as your motoring bills are concerned and you need to be aware of the mistakes that can really adds some serious money to your car insurance premiums. Make sure you do not fall into any of these top car insurance traps...

Despite the fact that we may be in the midst of a global recession thousands of motorists are still making the same errors as they look to reduce their car insurance premiums, and here at Insurance4my.com we are committed to delivering you the best value for money car insurance going.

Here's a list of five mistakes you shouldn't make if you're keen to keep your car insurance down.

1. ‘Maxing’  your Car!
Believe us when we tell you that the last thing you want to do is to modify your car if you are worried about car insurance costs. By doing so, either by changing the body work or the engine you will see a significant hike in your premiums.
This is because statistically modified vehicles are more likely to be stolen or involved in an accident.

And do not try and throw your insurer off the trail either by not telling them about modifications.  If you are involved in an accident you will not be insured!

2. Not being Safety Conscious
It is all too easy to get lazy when it comes to car safety. Your garage may be empty but it is easier to leave it on the drive and you may not want to fork out on a car alarm because of the cost but doing either of these things WILL reduce your car insurance premium.

3. Law Breaking
If you are convicted of a driving offence, it's likely that this will increase the cost of your car insurance as you will be perceived as a riskier driver to insure.

Insurance companies pay particular attention to your points and driving record in calculating your insurance premium.

Interestingly too if you are caught using a mobile phone this can cost you in terms of increased insurance premiums too as statistics show that those that are caught using a phone while driving are likely to do so on a regular basis and be involved in more accidents as a result.

The worst thing is these insurance hikes may stay with you for three to five years!

4. Pay Monthly
Car insurance often works differently to other bills in the fact that by paying monthly you could end up paying much more for your insurance.

Unlike things like gas and electricity many insurers will charge you to pay monthly and you should ask about this before committing to a monthly Direct Debit scheme.

If you can’t afford the lump sum it may make sense to borrow it on a 0% on new purchases credit card. Just make sure you clear the debt before the 0% period ends!

5. ...Being Lazy!
The last of our car insurance mistakes is possibly one of the worst because there is no excuse other than laziness for it. You should not simply accept your insurance renewal notice. Instead take the opportunity to come and talk to insurance companies like insurance4mycar, as we will often be able to beat the quote you have been given by some considerable margin!
