Car Insurance Scam Warning

by NCI 22. May 2009 11:13

Insurance 4 My Car is this week warning its customers after figures revealed a startling leap in fraudulent car insurance claims, led by a surge in organised car insurance crime.

The recession is being blamed for a 30% uplift in false insurance claims and it is a new band of criminal cases that we want to warn our customers about.

According to Police, innocent drivers are being targeted in a new crime wave, created entirely by criminal gangs driving around in cars.

They will pull out in front of your car in an old vehicle and brake hard, usually with the brake light unconnected so you slam into the back of them. They may also have a second car that the first car then hits as well.

They will then pin the blame onto you, as is the case with most car insurance claims, because you ‘went into the back of them’.

They then use a network of garages to charge the repair work at vastly inflated prices and may also claim for personal injury, netting thousands as a result of the car accident. Often these claims escalate to £20,000 or more.

Here at Insurance 4 My Car we are extremely concerned about this and a s a result we work with lots of other car insurance companies to monitor suspect claims and hand any suspicious trends or information to the Police.

One gang in particular had 400 separate incidents like this linked to them before the car insurance network caught up with them and had all the evidence handed over to the Police.

The good news is our team of car insurance experts are wise to this new trend and in the next piece on our car insurance blog we explain ways you can protect yourself from these incidents.
