What is Breakdown Cover?
This is a specialist car insurance, also known as breakdown recovery insurance and it covers you and your car if you break down at the side of the road. This is what we specialise in here at RescueMyCar.com.
Where can I read the small print?
When you purchase your breakdown insurance you will get a Certificate of Insurance and this should come with a pile of policy documents, which will house your small print. You can ask to see this in advance of any purchase and here at RescueMyCar we will send you the policy documents whenever you want to view them. It is important to check what IS NOT coveredLike any type of insurance it can pay to know what to ask for and you should definitely consider insuring the vehicle itself and not just you when considering breakdown insurance cover. That way whoever is driving it is covered. Also make sure you ask what is not covered so you can tell if the breakdown policy suits you.
How do I choose the Best Breakdown Insurance?
Work with your insurer to see what optional extras can be included within your budget as you can include anything from simple roadside repair and a tow to the local garage to full roadside repair, repair at your house and a tow back there and even accommodation or a hire car to cover the time you are stuck on without a vehicle. Any breakdown insurers worth their salt will work with you to get you the best deal.
How long will I wait for recovery?
This is a tough question to answer but in general expect to wait around half an hour. We use a huge network of independent specialists who are chosen based on your location to ensure they are as fast as humanly possible to get to you. This isn’t always the case with roadside breakdown cover as some companies will choose their repairer based on who is least busy!!! We don’t.
And if I cannot start my car at home?
Most good breakdown insurance policies will cover you at home too, but you must check first.
If I’m not in my car am I covered?
This all depends on the type of policy you have. If you opted for personal cover you will be as we cover you, and not the vehicle you are in. This can apply even if you are only a passenger but check your policy exclusions first! Not unless you specifically asked for European Breakdown Cover, or for an extension of your cover to cover a certain country you are in. This is easy to do and once covered we contact a local garage near you, irrespective of your location to come and get you. Transport of replacement parts, transport for you and your luggage to your destination and replacement rental vehicle are the types of cover you can expect.
What car breakdown issues are included?
If you do come to a stop for any of the following reasons you should be covered by any good car breakdown insurance policy:
- Engine issues Accidents
- Vandalised parts
- Car fires Battery issues
- Electrical issues Flat tyre
