The average cost of repair and recovery for a UK car breakdown now stands at £273 and it is leaving more than half of British motorists unable to pick up the bill!
According to recent insurance figures more than 50% of us would be unable to settle such a bill if it was handed to us and with the chances of you breaking down being put as 1 in 3 millions of motorists are in a particularly stick situation.
Commenting on the situation RescueMyCar’s managing director Neil Richards Smith said: ‘As I keep saying on our blog driving without the protection of car breakdown insurance is a big risk to take, especially if your finances are tight. Is it not better to pay £40 for a year of car breakdown cover than £273 or more when you break down?' Neil added.
To give you an idea of the cost of repair of some of the car parts that do go wrong we have compiled this short list of price ranges to bring home the reality of a potential repair bill:
Automatic Gear Box: £987 - £2,000+
Manual Gear Box: £850 - £4,500+
Engine: £600 - £5,000+
Air conditioning: £400 - £1,500
Another worrying development is that car owners are now going longer between services which is only acting to make the likelihood of a breakdown greater.
