Lower Car Insurance for Young Drivers

by NCI 10. June 2009 11:50

If you are a young driver you will know only too well how much you have to pay for car insurance because you are in an ‘at risk’ category. With little experience you are statistically more likely to have an accident, and your car may be more likely to be stolen if it is modified in any way.

You also will not have had a chance to build up a no claims bonus and as a result you will have to pay more for the same cover as those with more. These tips will help keep your insurance premiums down:

No Claims

The earlier you can start paying your car insurance the better as it means you are already building no claims (hopefully!). Even if this means buying an old banger to begin with and have it sitting on your drive you must find the cheapest way of building this vital part of your car insurance history. You may even be able to claim no claims as a named driver on another policy. So ask you mum or dad nicely!

Car Number 1

The problem about being young is you want the sportiest car you can afford to go with the image but often the insurance means it is out of the question. You can often find yourself paying £2000 for your car and the same again for your insurance.

The best insurance advice is to do a bit of research before you buy the car you want as asking for a quote after you buy could be a BIG mistake. If in doubt call one of our car insurance advisors and they will help you in any way they can to get your premium down.

Think: It is better to go for cheap and reliable for the first year so you can save up for something even better!

Pass Plus

Look at driving schemes like Pass Plus to help lower your insurance premiums. Good insurance companies like ours will take this into account as extra experience. And you could just go for third party, fire and theft if necessary to keep costs down further.

The best way to save cash as a young driver looking for car insurance is to just pick up the phone and talk to us. Our advisors have all been there and have personal experience of what it is like to be a young driver. Give them a call on 0800 783 6026.
