The long summer road trip has been a Rite of Passage ever since the 1969 film Easy Rider first hit our screens and sent a generation of adolescents running for the nearest clapped out motor.

Do not spend valuable money on food!
While it may be attractive to want to try out every item on the pound menu at MacDonald’s to save money for the more important things like car breakdown insurance believe it or not there is a cheaper way!
The way to do it is to live like a new age Freegan, which is basically a polite way of describing those who scavenge for food in bin and friendly shop owners. You will be surprised how much you can get hold of. Approach a few fresh produce shop owners and ask about the stock they may not want, explaining your Freegan beliefs. They will either be hooked, or simply just feel sorry for you... and all this means you will have money left over to pay the £40 per month car breakdown insurance cost!
Do not spend money on other travel expenses
With a decent car breakdown insurance policy you will not have to worry about those shock expenses, such as breakdown recovery and breakdown repair and instead all you will have left to be concerned with is petrol.
Do not spend money on accommodation
Who needs to spend cash on a hotel room when your front seat reclines?! You can even lock your doors too as an extra insurance against theft/attack as you would a hotel room.
Just be careful where you stop, however, as you may get yourself in trouble. It is always best to opt for a campsite. Once again though this is a genius way of saving money to spend on car breakdown insurance!

What is I have already left on my trip. Can I still get European cover?
As long as you are still in the UK we can sort everything out for you. Just give our team a call on 0800 783 6026 and we will sort out your European insurance for you.
Do I need my European Breakdown Cover Documents to be covered?
No. As soon as we send you a confirmation email your cover is booked and it is a good idea to print this as a minimum so you can help us find your breakdown policy quickly in the event of a breakdown. We will also post everything to you as quickly as possible.
Can I get one way breakdown cover?
You can, although we would always suggest you take the cover you need to cover your whole journey. The difference in cost will be negligible anyway.
Will RescueMyCar send a recovery vehicle if I do break down in Europe?
We certainly will and we work with all the best European breakdown recovery companies all over Europe to ensure there will be a recovery vehicle with you very quickly. On motorways you may have to use the official breakdown recovery but you can claim the cost of this back from us.
Does my European breakdown cover cover my personal items in the car?
The simple answer is no. These should be covered by your car insurance policy and we are not liable for any losses or breakages.
