European Breakdown Facts

by SimonPenson 14. August 2009 13:40

If you are planning a trip to Europe this summer you may think that the most dangerous part of that journey is the plan journey over there – but you would be wrong! In actual fact you are statistically more likely to suffer a European breakdown or accident in your car than you are on the journey over there!

The most recent figures available reveal that of all European destinations Italy had the most casualties, followed by Poland and Germany. Amazingly Portugal, with its ‘notorious European car record, reduced road deaths by 42%!

Those  European car figures give you a slightly distorted view of course, mainly because it is the incidents per 1000 cars on the road that is important. If you take this figure then Latvia, Greece, Hungary, Poland and Lithuania are the most dangerous places to drive.

So, if you are travelling to any of the above what should you do to prepare yourself as best you can? The simple answer is to ensure you have good European breakdown cover. The good news is that serious accidents in Europe are dropping in number but they are being replaced by an increasing number of breakdown issues.

Three quarters of UK motorists driving abroad say they feel nervous about doing so and European breakdown cover acts to help reduce that anguish, allowing us to safely and confidently get to our European holiday destination with the right breakdown cover should anything happen.

The one thing to remember, apart from your breakdown cover telephone number is the number for the emergency services in European countries, which is 112.
