Car Insurance Law Change

by SimonPenson 25. September 2009 11:59

Car owners that do not take out car insurance could have their cars destroyed if the latest government plans make it through parliament.

With numbers of none insured drivers climbing lawmakers are looking at ways to increase the penalties for driving without insurance and scraping cars and other vehicles is now a serious consideration according to road safety minister Paul Clark.

According to the latest stats a massive 260 people were killed and 23000 injured by uninsured drivers, which has resulted in a £30 increase in car insurance premiums for EVERY driver in the UK!

Of course the cost of uninsured drivers can be much higher if they happen to hit your car as you will be left to foot the repair bill and even those with no car breakdown cover can create issues as a lack of support can leave us all stuck behind them in traffic.

At present if you are caught driving without car insurance you would get a smack on the wrist and face a financial penalty in the majority of cases but  by giving the Police extra powers to scrap the car the hope is more people will think twice before driving without cover.

Owners will be alerted to the fact they are uninsured under the new system and given a set period in which to arrange cover. If they do not comply, they will be fined £100 and, if they continue to keep the vehicle uninsured, it could be seized.
