We have all done it, driven past a helpless driver as they peer under their bonnet at the side of the road in the vain hope of being able to fix the problem that has caused them to breakdown. The thought probably doesn’t even pass your mind ‘what would I do if that was me?’
If you stop to think about it for a moment just what would you do if your car breakdown nightmare did come true? A wish that you had breakdown cover would certainly be top of the list! And that is why breakdown cover is worth its weight in gold.
With the seed now in your mind the next thing to think about if ‘how’ to buy your cover and so the following points may well come in very handy as you ponder your options:
- Think about where and when you are most likely to need your breakdown cover. If you only drive your car around the town in which you live, you would probably look for basic to comprehensive cover. If you drive further afield on a regular basis, you might be better off with a comprehensive to premium policy.
- Look for any discounts the provider is offering. Some offer online discounts of around 30-40% and this could prove useful in reducing the price of your policy.
- Remember that even the most basic of breakdown cover policies will usually be better than having no policy at all.
According to latest figures the average callout cost for a recovery vehicle is now up around the £180 mark – and that’s if you are within 10 miles of them! Suddenly a £40 breakdown cover policy doesn’t seem so bad after all does it!
