While there is lots of talk of the relative cost of breakdown cover very little is actually written about breakdown cover benefits that policies can provide.
A scourge of problems related to uncovered motorists across the UK breaking down has led many breakdown rescue groups to remind car owners once again of the cost of not having the right cover in place.
With call our charges in the £90 to £150 range now and then add-ons for the cost of fixing the car also soaring, the affect of a breakdown is crippling for many motorists already hit with fuel bill hikes and the recession.
Earlier this month, more figures were released highlighting the dangerous practices employed by some customers who do not have breakdown cover.
One in three (32%) of drivers polled for the insurer's survey said they would remain in their car if they had a breakdown on the motorway.
Around one in six (13%) said that they would attempt to fix their own cars on the hard shoulder, while 4% would walk along the motorway to the nearest garage in order to get assistance.
They are numbers that also highlight the benefits from a safety perspective of breakdown cover as it massively reduces your exposure to dangerous situations on busy roads.
Rescue My Car’s Neil Richards Smith said of the findings: ‘We all know about the financial benefits of breakdown cover but what we don’t often think about is the dangers it helps us avoid. For those with families it also makes a lot of sense as having cover will see your rescue times plummet.’
