We are often so busy with the thought of getting somewhere that we forget about the possibility that we might not. New cars are so reliable now relative to how they were that we almost take it for granted and as a result when a car breakdown does occur we are unprepared.
The art of surviving a breakdown has been all but forgotten as a result and whereas a decade or two ago we would have been fully prepared had our car broke down we are now finding ourselves stranded without the tools to get us out of the mire.
So the Rescue My Car team has decided to pull together this Car Breakdown Survival Kit feature to remind us all of what we need.
1. Breakdown Cover. An absolute essential as it means that all your troubles can be solved with one simple phone call. Our cheap breakdown cover polices start from around £30 a year so there is no longer an excuse not to take one out!
2. Tools. While many drivers opt to splash the cash on an in-car entertainment system, a decent tool kit is by far the most valuable accessory. A jack, a lug nut wrench, a range of spanners and, of course, a tyre itself should be present in the trunk. A set of screwdrivers and a standard pair of pliers are also essential.
3. Safety Equipment. Reflective clothing and a reflective triangle are essentials as is a fully-charged mobile.
