Breakdown Truck Thefts Warning

by SimonPenson 3. March 2010 16:22

Police have issued warnings to Britain’s car owners this week following a spate of car theft involving ‘fake breakdown truck drivers’

Rescue My Car understands that thieves are posing as car breakdown truck drivers and are taking away expensive cars on the back of flatbed lorries in a spate of thefts in and around the London area. Police are concerned that the tactic could spread nationwide and are working closely with the UK’s top breakdown recovery companies to spread the word.

Cars including Porsche Boxters, Porsche 911s and Mercedes cars have so far been targeted and Rescue My Car is keen to stress how important it is to ask breakdown drivers for identification.

‘We vet every one of our breakdown partners very carefully and they always carry identification and will have documentation with them with information about your breakdown call,’ explained Rescue My Car’s Craig Astbury.

‘If a breakdown truck turns up you have every right to ask where they have come from, who sent them and who they are,’ he added.

Another top bit of advice is to fit your car with a tracking device to aid the recovery process should the worst happen and to join a top breakdown cover firm like Rescue My Car so you can be sure of who you are dealing with at all time.
