The latest gadget in the fight to help reduce car insurance has been launched this week.
The ‘little black box’ monitors how a car is driven so careful drivers can be rewarded with lower premiums claim its makers.
Mike Brockman is the man behind Insure the Box, and he explained how it uses satellite tracking technology to monitor annual mileage within a few metres, therefore allowing insurers to offer lower premiums based on risk factors.
He said: “Insure the Box is aimed at motorists who drive a limited number of miles each year, such as school-run mums and second car users and in a lot of ways it is like a pre-pay mobile for those that don’t use their phone much – you pay only for what you use.”.
The GPS tracking box monitors how the car is driven, measuring everything from excessive Gforce through to sudden braking or cornering and long periods of driving without a break.
This data will also be used at renewal to set premiums. Brockman says: 'We no longer need to take someone's word that they are a sensible driver. We will be able to see it and reward them for it.' Motorists can also monitor their performance online.
