Female Car Insurance Premiums Catching Up

by SimonPenson 21. April 2010 16:59

There has been a lot written over recent months about the rise in the cost of car insurance but the latest data suggest that the alleged discrepancies between the cost of male and female policies are actually diminishing.

While car insurance premiums have risen by around 14% across the board in the past 12 months it is the cost of female car insurance that is gaining most, especially for women in the 21 to 35 years age bracket.

Commenting, Craig Astbury, director at Insurance for My Car, said he expects more consumers to shop around and compare car insurance quotes away from the tried and tested brands.

“You can no longer afford to stay brand loyal when it comes to car insurance,” he said. “Never before has it been more important to shop around and that is now as true for women as it is for men if the latest figures are to be believed.”

And while younger females still pay less and cost insurers less than younger men the larger increases affecting women suggest that many insurers are narrowing this price differential between the sexes at younger ages.
