Survey Reveals Women 'Less Likely' to Consider Breakdown Cover

A new survey has claimed that women are much less likely to take out comprehensive car insurance than their male counterparts: the sort of insurance that will come complete with UK breakdown cover.

In the survey, which was originally commissioned by the Post Office, it was revealed that just 44% of women had taken out breakdown cover on their motor, preferring instead to take out less comprehensive car insurance.  This was a full 14% less than the males surveyed, 58% of whom had taken out full cover.

In response to the results of the survey, the post office has chosen to really emphasise the importance of comprehensive cover, which can provide not only UK breakdown cover, but also cover against theft and other damages.

Whilst offering lesser protection, third party, fire and theft policies are often chosen by new drivers simply because it can be the significantly cheaper option.  The advice from the Post Office to take extra care in reading and completely taking in any cover policy, to be completely sure exactly what is covered.

Other areas of the survey research revealed that head-on collisions are much less likely to occur to female drivers, but that smaller incidents such as those that occur at traffic lights and roundabouts are more common for them than for males.  It was also noted that the main female priority when it came to motor insurance was cover against theft or the loss of car keys.
