A new study commissioned by motoring glass specialist Autoglass has revealed that the problem of potholes has become a legitimate worry for motorists, and has thrown new importance upon the importance of UK breakdown cover.

The survey revealed that the average driver is forced to negotiate thirteen potholes during a typical journey, and that 27%  will hit an extraordinary 20 of the ruts in the same period.

Furthermore, 45% of those motorists who took part in the study have said that they have suffered a near miss on the roads because of poor road conditions, and 80% have voiced a concern that these conditions could cause them to suffer an accident.

Even though potholes are not always considered a high risk, they can actually cause such issues as paintwork damage, burst tyres and even damage to the windscreens, the study also discovered that pothole-related damages cost the average motorist £220 per year, which amounts to a staggering £3.7 billion a year.  These discoveries have really shown the importance of gaining the correct UK breakdown cover, with burst tyres especially being a potential danger.

The managing director of Autoglass, Mr Nigel Doggett stated that it was very alarming that so many drivers have had an accident or experienced vehicle damage as a result of the treacherous driving conditions’.
