by NCI 31. August 2010 14:26

The latest research within the area of Insurance and UK breakdown cover have revealed that uninsured and dishonest drivers are costing the other UK road users an astonishing £1.25 billion each year.

Co-operative Insurance, the company responsible for the research, have revealed that the worst offences are by younger people, one in four of whom have admitted that they drive without either correct cover, MOT or a licence in the last year.

As well as these offences, an estimated £50 a year is being added to motor insurance policies simply due to motorists making fraudulent claims.

Speaking on behalf of Co-operative Financial Services, Tim Franklin stated that ‘millions’ of motorists were choosing to flout the law, and that this behavior could consequently come at a ‘massive cost’ to other motorists, in safety terms as well as in terms of UK breakdown cover and insurance.

However, the latest figures reveals just how important finding the correct UK breakdown cover can be, with more than £23,000 people each year being killed or injured by uninsured drivers.
The road safety charity Brake spokeswoman Katie Shephard stated that it was ‘shocking that so many young people admit to driving illegally.
