Damaged Bus Use 'Bad Call'

by NCI 9. November 2010 13:42

The importance of UK breakdown cover and road safety has been thrown into light by the recent revelation that a bus firm allowed one of it’s vehicles to be driven on public roads whilst it was missing both some of it’s rear lights and a bumper.

The firm Notts+Derby allowed the vehicle to be used following it’s involvement in an accident  and the subsequent removal of the parts.

There had been a subsequent public inquiry into the incident, and the firm had admitted that it made a ‘bad call’, and that they had issued a final warning to the manager who was responsible for the decision.

Initial damage to the vehicle had occurred when a car ran into the back of the bus in Derby City Centre.  The bus was then taken back to the depot, and then it was decided that it was ok to be taken on the 12 mile trip to the place where it could be repaired.

Speaking on behalf of Notts+Derby, the transport Manager Brian King stated that his firm had ‘obviously no justification’ for the incident that will increase the desire for UK breakdown cover.

The traffic commissioner for the North Western Region Beverley Bell, the person charged with regulating the bus companies in the area, noted her satisfaction that the matter had been resolved.
