The latest research from the world of motor insurance and breakdown cover UK has shown that thousands of motorists are currently taking gambles with their car insurance policies by providing false information to their policy providers.
The study – which was carried out by the Association of British Insurers – revealed that motorists believed it was acceptable to keep back details like motoring convictions or lying about their own personal information. However, the ABI have warned that such actions could end up invalidating any motor insurance or breakdown cover UK, with firms potentially refusing to pay out if they discover that the holder has not disclosed the correct information.
Information revealed that more than half the motorists surveyed felt that ‘fronting’ – the tactic of a parent taking out an insurance policy in their name despite their child being the main driver of the car - was acceptable.
Also revealed was the fact that a fifth of drivers wouldn’t object to obtaining lower premiums by lying about the number of years since their last insurance claim, 12% also stating that they would happily consider not disclosing any previous motoring convictions to help decrease the premium.
Speaking on behalf of the ABI, Director Nick Starling warned the public that ‘Trying to deceive your insurer is a false economy that will cost you dear.’
