More warning has come through to motorists from the world of car insurance and breakdown cover UK wide regarding new laws that will come into effect in the spring.
Both the Motor Insurer’s Bureau and the DVLA have continued to emphasise the importance of car insurance by distributing facts and information alongside v11 tax renewal forms as well as on the public services website Direct.gov. The new laws were announced in January, and revealed that motorists would now have to carry insurance even for cars that were not being driven.
The Corporate Affairs Director of the DVLA, David Evans highlighted the dangers of uninsured drivers, noting that they were ‘a menace’. With figures showing that uninsured drivers increase the average premium by £30, they are without doubt causing trouble to other motorists in an indirect sense at least.
Speaking on the matter, the MIB’s Head of Motor Insurance Database Services Neil Drane stated that ‘the change in law is a stepping up of enforcement activity, so that not only those vehicles driven without insurance will be caught. Now the registered keeper must make sure their vehicle is insured all the time.’
Mr Drane concluded with the observation that both the DVLA and the MID would be checking to ensure that this resulted in the levels of uninsured cars went down.
