by NCI 18. February 2011 13:20

Latest research from the world of breakdown cover UK wide has revealed that upwards of 21% of UK motorists are not running the recommended regular maintenance checks on their cars.  Consequently drivers have been warned of the risk that can be under-taken by avoiding these processes, namely that this can lead to damage to the car when basic initial problems are not picked up immediately.

The study – which was researched and provided by Sainsbury’s Insurance – revealed that the number one neglected area in car maintenance was car tyres with a high number of UK motorists admitting that they hadn’t checked theirs with any regularity.

Another interesting statistic was the revelation that there was a substantial difference in the sexes, with 26% of females admitting to irregular checks compared to only 16% of male drivers, an interesting fact when it comes to gaining premiums for breakdown cover UK wide.

There were also intriguing differences in the UK’s various regions, with London and the East of England motorists more likely to fail to carry out the maintenance checks in London, with the most efficient drivers being in the East Midlands and the North East.

Whilst it’s inevitably time-consuming to consistently check every system in your car, motoring experts have advised that spending a few minutes every month in taking a look over your car will mean that any potential problems can be nipped in the bud, rather than being left to deteriorate further.
