Car 'Spy' Might Lower Young Motorist Premiums

by NCI 17. March 2011 09:18

The latest revelation from the world of car technologies has revealed an intriguing new idea that could well make big contributions towards making Britain’s younger drivers a lot safer, leading to reduced insurance and less need for cheap breakdown cover.

Young Marmalade, a company which specializes in providing cover to drivers in both their teens and their twenties will begin to offer anyone holding their policies the installation of a system which monitors how well they drive so that the company can adjust their premium accordingly to make it more realistic.

The main idea behind the device is that not only will young drivers improve their skills (more so than with any normal cover), they will also be rewarded with lower premiums if they choose to drive responsibly.  With youth driving cover tending to lean towards the more expensive end of the market, this may well be sufficient incentive in itself for many young motorists to become more responsibility

Founder of Young Marmalade Nick Moger noted that that ‘Youngsters might be wary of Intelligent Marmalade because it could be seen as a spying eye – a sort of ‘black box’ which records their every move.  Sensible young people though soon realise the benefits of using the system in reducing their risk assessment.’

It remains to be seen how well Intelligent Marmalade will perform, but there is no doubt that it could have a big impact on both insurance and the need for cheap breakdown cover.
