Tesco Enter The Motoring Market

In a move that will no doubt have a huge impact on the UK motoring world, retail giant Tesco has officially joined the fray of second hand car dealers with tescocars.com, following on from the introduction of both Tesco Breakdown Cover and Tesco Car Insurance.

The website first opened on Friday, following on from Tesco’s purchase of a minority stake in Carsite which promptly removed their own car inventory as a result.  Speaking on the issue, the retail giant noted that their intentions were to keep the costs down for their customers.

Speaking on the takeover and the new website, the Chief Executive of Retail Services Andrew Higginson stated that because there will be no middle man and no expensive showrooms that prices will be able to stay low.  Not only this, but all of the cars will be able to be delivered to the customer’s door.

With the Tesco brand comes an admittedly stylish website complete with full pictures, history reports as well as details of previous fuel usage.  There will be videos of the cars being tested to compensate for the fact that the customers will obviously be unable to test drive the cars themselves.

Initial statistical aims released by the company stated that they were expecting to  advertise around 3,000 cars per week, which will be sourced from both hire fleets as well as lease companies.  Customers will also be expected to be given a detailed service history.

With every car going through a 167 point RAC inspection and carrying a 1 month RAC warranty, it will be intriguing to see the impact that this new website has on the industry.
