In a move that is unlikely to surprise many motorists who take to Britain’s roads, the latest research has revealed that the most popular car in the UK during 2010 was in fact the Vauxhall Corsa.
Money Supermarket – the company who conducted the research – analyzed their data of the top insurance quote searches entered by their customers by brand type during the year, and found that the Corsa was the most popular model. The second and third models were the Ford Fiesta and the Volkswagen Golf respectively.
One of the more surprising aspects of the research also revealed that the average engine size for the top twenty most searched cars was 1.6 litres, indicating that in these days of more expensive fuel that Brits are choosing economy over power when it comes to their cars.
Speaking on the research, MoneySupermarket’s car insurance expert Peter Harrison commented that ‘We've seen rising fuel prices and escalating car insurance premiums over the past year, so it's no surprise motorists are taking steps to combat these costs; age, engine size and make or model of car all have an impact on the cost of insurance premiums, and fuel consumption too.’
