Classic Car Owners Gambling On Breakdown Cover

by NCI 16. May 2011 16:43

There can’t be many things that are more satisfying than breaking out your classic car and going for a long cruise in the sun.  However, the latest research has shown that more and more classic car owners are taking the risks of not obtaining the correct breakdown cover UK wide for their vehicles.

The research – which was carried out by the insurer Footman James – revealed that of the 5,400 classic car owners surveyed only seven per cent felt that having sufficient breakdown cover was a top priority whilst driving.  To give this a little perspective, 29% stated that they wouldn’t leave their home without a phone and 18% per cent who believe that a tool kit was the most vital aspect.

17% percent of the drivers stated that they didn’t have any form of breakdown covered, and a remarkable 3% said that they didn’t even know if they carried the cover or not!

Speaking on the matter, the Managing Director of Footman James noted that ‘As many classic vehicles will have been in hibernation prior to the touring season, it becomes increasingly important that owners have the right levels of breakdown cover in place should the unthinkable happen. While it might be tempting for owners to fix minor problems themselves, breakdowns often require expert assistance to get the vehicle safely back on the road.’
