Motorist Fined For Using Two Phones Whilst Driving

by NCI 3. June 2011 09:22

In a move that will further emphasise the importance of the correct insurance and breakdown cover UK wide, a Norfolk motorist has apparently been arrested for driving whilst using not one, but two mobile phones.

The unnamed 34 year old driver was believed to have been steering the wheel of his uninsured Vauxhall Tiagra with his legs, whilst holding one phone to his ear and using his other hand to send a text message on a different handset.  It was considered incredibly fortunate that police officers were there to spot the danger and arrest the man, who otherwise could have caused severe damage in an accident.

The A47 is one of Britain’s busiest roads, and one of the Norfolk Constabulary spokeswomen was keen to emphasise that this behaviour was unacceptable:

‘Driving while using a mobile means you are not concentrating fully on the road. Using one mobile phone is silly but two phones is amazingly silly.’

The constabulary in the area have recently been making a clampdown on the law that states it is illegal to use a mobile phone whilst driving, and this incident is clearly one that backs up this investment of officer’s time.

Official figures state that officers caught 239 motorists over the two weeks of the phone clampdown, showing that many UK motorists are still choosing to risk the lives of both themselves and others by not obeying necessary laws.
