With UK fuel costs spiraling, it should come as no surprise to learnt that one in five motorists in the country have been forced to ditch their car and rely on public transport, according to the latest figures.
Research provide by Green Flag was responsible for showing the information that reveals the change in attitudes towards driving in the UK as a result of the constant fuel price increases.
However, those seeking to be more economical haven’t automatically decided to ditch the car, with 7% of those interviewed swapping their cars for a motorbike, and 58% intentionally trying to drive in a more conservative manner to save fuel.
With fuel-related call-outs for UK breakdown cover having increased by 40% during January, it is obvious that petrol is continuing to provide problems for the UK motorists.
Speaking on the issue, Green Flag head Henry Topham stated that ‘Rising petrol prices are having a massive impact on household budgets and consequently having a dramatic impact on driver behaviours. Cutting down on journeys and driving slower is better for the environment and general health and is a much better idea than attempting to keep going on an empty tank and having to call out a breakdown service to rescue you.’
