The latest figures from the UK motoring industry show that over a million UK motorists have chosen to give up using their cars because of the ever growing increase in the cost of fuel.
Currently, it is estimated that the average car owner is spending approximately £1,700 on fuel every day – an apparent increase of nearly 33% percent on last year’s figures, according to the figures released from Sainsburys.
The impact of fuel prices has had a more widespread impact, however, with an estimated 76% of drivers having had to change their driving habits over the last year in order to try and be more economical.
26% of motorists stated that they have stopped filling up the tank fully, and 45% have deliberately cut down on how much they drive. The amount of people choosing to car share has also increased by an estimated seven per cent.
One of the other main trends in this area is the 10% who have chosen to downgrade their car for one that is far cheaper. It will be intriguing to see whether these patterns continue in the motoring public – though this is likely to depend on whether or not fuel prices continue their rapid rise.
