As we all know, a consultation about raising England and Wales' motorways limit from 70mph to 80mph has begun and should take place in 2012 if the plans go ahead. However, there seems to be a few issues raised amongst the public who have been discussing the proposal.
Although the Department of Transport's Secretary believes that the speed increase would be better for the economy and "benefit hundreds of millions of pounds through shorter journey times," many people disagree.
Some believe that if people travelling along the current 70mph already exceed the limit by 10mph, surely the new 80mph will also be disregarded? This means that the motorway may witness motorists travelling up to 90mph, a worrying and evidently dangerous speed. Let's hope that the decision made is one that we can all agree on.
