April saw a 5% rise in new car volumes up to 185,778 units. Total sales to date this year are now 920,366 units. There has now being 38 months of growth for the new car market and sales in April are the biggest in a decade. This is all very encouraging for the UK market.
The fleet sector is the main driving force of these superb figures, year-on-year registrations up 9% to 93,095 units as contract hire companies replenished their cars.
Consumer confidence remains very high and with the election results just announced this is expected to grow further.
The bestselling car in April was the Ford Fiesta, followed by the Ford Focus, VW Golf and the Vauxhall Corsa.
